WAIPITI HUNTERS
X S ARTY’S SUCCESSFUL TRIP (Per Press Association.) GORE, last night. Two parties of waipiti hunters reached Gore to-day homeward bound. Messrs. Thomas (Auckland), Holmes (Franktou Junction), Ormeston (Papatoetoe), and Cole (Nelson) had a most successful trip. Entering' their block at To Anau, they hunted towards Lake Sutherland. Mr. Holmes _ secured a 10-pointer and a 13-pointer waipiti and Mr. Thomas a 12-pointer. Tho former told an Ensign reporter that the party were well pleased. Waipiti were seen four days later. Mr. Thomas also found a dead 14pointer, and this head was brought in with the others, Messrs. Nitz brothers, of Masterton, working No. 2 block, were not so successful and saw very few traces,, but the party had si good outing. Both parties pay tribute to the kindness of the Southland Acclimatisation Society. The heads created groat; interest in Gore to-day.
