SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL TO TRAVEL WITH ALL BLACKS CAPETOWN, March 8. Towards the end of the month, the South African Rugby Board will appoint a South African representative to travel with the All Blacks team. It is understood there have been two nominations for the position, Mr. P. W. Da.y, and Mr. D. W. Magennis. Mr. Day has, of course, long been connected with sport in the Western Province, and was manager of the tour when the New Zealand military team came hero in 1919. Mr. Magennis is well-known m Transvaal sporting circles. In view of the suggested formation of “training camps” and “tactics committees” to deal with tlio visit of the New Zealand Rugby team this coming season, it is interesting to note the view of the International Rugby Board, under whose rules the Rugby game is played throughout. the world, takes on these intensive preparations. In a circular letter some time ago to the various Rugby Control Boards in the Dominions these suggestions were specifically deprecated, as savoring of professionalism. In order that there should not be too- much tactical discussion the Internationa! Board also ruled that players should not leave the field at half-time except under special circumstances. It will be recalled that a vear ago an English university side discontinued their usual team, visit to a seaside resort before the ’Varsity match oi account of these recommendations.
