WATER-HEATING SERVICES
ELIMINATION OF TROUBLE A report upon investigations made with the object of eliminating electrical water-heating service troubles was laid before the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board to-day by the consulting engineers, Messrs. Tempi in arid To.ogood, as follows: Having in view several complaints made with regard to water heating we have given the matter special attention with the object of eliminating the trouble. We believe that water heating by electricity is a. positive success' provided the ulinieiiiai'y principles applicable are carried out. If these principles arc ignored failure must follow. “In all cases of failure the board’s staff have been aide to point out the remedy and if their advice is acted upon success follows. To overcome any dillieultv we advise the board as follows :
“Issue of a standard general .specification taking the following sjt-eps: (.1) Advice be given free, of all costs to any consumer at the board’s office. If a system is at present installed in connection with a wood or coal range, it will if necessary, he inspected for a fee of 5s plus 6d per mile one way travelling expenses outside three mile radius, and consumers will be adivsed whether or not it- is suitable to be used in connection with an electric, water heating element- or how the old system is to be altered for such purposes. (2) A general specification be issued by the board for the guidance and control of plumbers and electricians, and when having a hot water system installed, consumers are specially advised to state that such a system is to he in accordance with the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board’s general specification for hot- water installations. (3) For a- fee of ss, plus 6d per mile one way, travelling expenses outside the three mile radius from the board’s office, a board’s official to inspect any water irtstallntion after its completion.” Discussion of the report was held over until the next meeting of the board, members intimating that they would prefer to have an opportunity to consider the report
