POSITION IN SAMOA

RESERVE. FORCE FOR APIA SUVA, March 22. The H.M.S. Diomede has reached Suva from Samoa, where the ship left 50 marines as a reserve force. Commander John 11, Godfrey, of tho Diomede, was left at Apia as senior naval officer, next in command to the Administrator, Sir George Richardson, who is now awaiting his successor. The marines were in charge of Captain E. Bowring, of the uunedin,'with Captain F. S. Selby Tuppen rts second in command. To all appearances tho position was quiet, and it was evident that the Administration did not. consider there was any danger or they would not have permitted the Diomede to leave. It is also reported that the. Mail have returned to their villages for the most part, but they will not meet the Administration in conference. —Auckland Star. ..
