BOARD’S MONTHLY MEETING

The following members were present at the monthly meeting of the Waiapu Hospital Board, held at Te Puia Hospital on Monday: Messrs. A. \Y. Kirk, A, B. Williams. H. H. Fairlie, J. Ready, M. Hyland, ancl F. J. Williams. In the absence of the chairman, Mr. o'ates, Mr. A. W. Kirk was elected to the chair. Before the business opened, Mr. Kirk referred to the death of Mrs. Oates, which had so touched the hearts of all present. A vote of sympathy to Mr. Oates and family was earned, members standing in silence. Leave of absence tvas granted to Mr. Oates. Amongst correspondence dealt with was a letter from the Health Department, advising that the department confirmed the acceptance of Mr. Archie E% Kirk’s tender for the Te Puia Hospital additions, his being the lowest tender of seven. There was a large variation in the prices, the difference between the highest and lowest tenders being £.IOOO. Mr. A. E. Kirk’s price was £2954. At a later stage in the meeting, Mr. E. HewitSon, of Tokomaru Bay, was appointed overseer for the board in connection with the building works.

The Hospital Boards’ Association wrote suggesting that the bursary to be granted to nurses by hospital boards for post-graduate training should be £Bo. The chairman remarked that this did not concern this board’, and the letter was received.

The Cook Hospital Board, inquired if the Waiapu board would accept responsibility for the maintenance of a pensioner from Waipiro Bay, who had been admitted to the Memorial Home. —The medtihg resolved that the Waiapu board should meet the charges.

The Secretary of the Haukanoa Sports Club forwarded a donation of £5 6s towards the hospital funds, and the secretary was instructed to convey to the donors the board’s thanks for the gift. Mr. Archie E. Kirk wrote enclosing the agreement relative to the hospital building contract, and asked that the board execute the same.—lt was resolved that the board’s seai be affixed to the document.

The usual monthly reports from the nurses in charge at the Cottage Hospital, Tikitiki, and tho Maternity Home, Tokomaru Bay, were read and adopted. Tho medical superintendent reported that 14 patients had been admitted to To Puia Hospital during January, and 12 discharged, while three deaths had occurred. The dry weather had had its effect on the hospital dairy herd, so that it had been necessary to purchase two new cows. Tho groundsman was instructed to buy bran to supplement the cows’ feed supply. With reference to the Cook Hospital Board’s claim for patients’ fees, which had been disputed and referred to tho Minister of Health for arbitration, the Director-General advised that the department’s inspecting accountant would be visiting the district shortly, and would investigate the matter further.—Received.

The Cook Hospital Board wrote enclosing an account for £123, being patients’ fees claimed from the Waiapu board for the year just closed'. The secretary was instructed to call tenders for the supply- of Stores to the MaterbitV Home at Tokomam Bav.
