A WATER SHORTAGE
PRIVATE HOSES BANNED i . THOSE ON METERS PERMITTED As a result of the council’s decision Inst night, the use iof nil hoses not on meters is forbidden in the borough of Gisborne. This decision was reached on tlio initiative of the Deputy-Mayor, Or. .T. Blair, who remarked: “The water is getting so short that we will have to prohibit the use of hoses, whether they are attended or not.’’ He moved that the use of hoses should lie banned. Or. F. Collin asked what motor garages would do. A councillor: They are on meters.
Or. T. Todd wished to know whether the ose of .i private hose for washing a ear was prohibited.
Or. 11. E. Maude: It ceases to be a garden hose when you use it on a car.
It was eventually decided to forbid l the use.of hoses that were not on motors.
The Deputy-Mayor said that before the council next met it might be necessary to commence pumping at Mangapoiko and the engineer required authority to do this. The necessary authority was given.
