CYCLONIC STORM

DAMAGE IN AUSTRALIA LIGHTNING STRIKES TRAIN SYDNEY, Jan. 20. A cyclonic storm struck Melbourne, lightning causing heavy damage. An electric train entering the Spencer street station was struck iby lightning, and the whole suburban electiical system was disorganised. In addition many houses were flooded by the torrential downpour, and several houses were struck by lightning. Luckily, there were no fatalities. Heavy rain, accompanied by terrific thunderstorms, deluged the southwestern and central western districts of New South Wales. The downpour was so heavy that stock were drowned in all directions and other great damage was caused, many towns being inundated.
