COMMUNICATION WITH AUCKLAND LINE FROM BAY OF PLENTY Within two months it is expected trains will bo running on the now section of tho railway line from Waihi to Tanealua through tho Hay of Plenty. This will add another 85 miles of permanent way to the Auckland railway district, and passengers will be able to travel direct from Auckland to Taneatna iby train. ... i Another section of line which it is expected will be completed 1 and opened toward the end of March will be that from Kirikopuni, the first part of the lino connecting Auckland with Dargavillb direct. Work lias progressed favorably on various sections of line through the Bay of Plenty, and the engineers, Sir \\. G. Armstrong Whitworth, and Co., Ltd., are now ready to hand over to the Public Works'Department that section, of lino from Tahawai to To Puna. • This is the last stretch of line through tho Bay, 15 miles in length, and completes the whole of the line from Waihi to Taneatna, including the piece recently taken over between Waihi and Tahawai. Tho section of line between Taneatna and Tauranga is at present being run by the Public Works DepartmentWith the completion of the lino through the Bay bf Plet*iy, boing taken' over by the Railway Department,
mines the question of a nearer route from the Bay to Auckland. The necessary link will run from Paeroa to Pokeno on the main line south of Pnkekohe across Pinko swamp. This will reduce the rail distance front the Bay of Plenty to Auckland hy between dO and 50 miles, and will save a, long journey down to Prank ton Junction and back.
