AUCKLAND MEETING

AHURIRI AYINS CUP.

The summer meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club opened on Tuesday in glorious weather. There was an attendance of about 32,000, and some first-class racing was witnessed. The track was hard and dry, and large fields were the order of the day. The totalizator receipts amounted to £87,067 10s., against £75,319 10s. on the corresponding day of last year, an increase of £12.288. Results: —

Introductory Trot Handicap, of 400 sovs., 11 miles: 8 Bright Light, 1,. 1 Nelson Boy, 2, 10 Ansclino 3. Also started: 9 Biugcn Boy, 3 Dolores, 12 Don Zolock, 6 Quickfire, 2 Raima, 13 Roma Bingen, 11 Billy Carbine, 4 Roe/,, Gold Sovereign, 5 Scan Truibliais, 7 Bingen Star, 14 AVimmera King. Bright. Light took the lead early and maintained it throughout to win by a length and a half from Nelson Boy, with Anseline three lengths away third. Raima was fourth. Time, 3.35 1-5.

December Handicap, of 400 sovs, 11 miles: 4 AVallroon 1. 1 Daytime 2, S A'an Rich 3. Alsto started: 2 Auditress, 0 d’Artagrtan, 9 Kingsclere, 10 Lord Minto, 11 Master Councillor, 5 Scandal, 7 AVrigley, 3 Uncle Bert, AVriglcy had chargcwrver the early stages. Daytime leu at the turn, but AVallroon came up fast to win by a head, A T :ni Rich third, three lengths awav; Auditress was fourth. Time, 3.25!

Auckland Trotting Cup Handicap, of 2200 sovs., 2 miles: 2 Ahuriri 1, 9 Jack Potts 2, 1 Machine Gun 3. Also started: 7 Concliff, 4 Tom Thumb. 10 Pctcrwah, 1 Sea Pearl, 8 Cardinal Logan, 6 Jewel Pointer, 2 ICohara, 3 Sheik. 5 Great Bingen. Tom Thumb and Cardinal Logan were the early leaders,, but at the end of. the first round Jack Potts went to the front. Jewel Pointer. Machine Gun, and Ahuriri were close. Going across the top positions were little changed, but at the turn Machine Gun took the lead from Ahuriri, Jack Potts, and Great Bingen, Ahuriri then came up in great stylo, and fought out an exciting finish to win by a head from Jack Potts. , Machine Gun was two lengths away, third, and Great Bingen fourth, a length and a half away. Time, 4.25 3-5.

Parnell Handicap, of 500 sovs., 2 miles: 1 Native Star. 1, 3 Tony Victor 2, 16 Tiger Salve 3. Also started: 5 Anseline. 10 Bingen King. 8 Grattan King. 11 Peter Grattan. 18 Rai Alto. 13 Schism, 6 Appeal, Mutu. 15 All Mack, 9 Ngatirn, 4 Nourmahal, 14 The Tartar, 12 Toll Chimes. 2 Potrolcuso. 7 Clonmel, 19 Peter McKinney, 17 Tradesman. Tony Victor and Appeal showed out early! At the end of the first round the race developed into a struggle between Tony AG dor and Native Star. They were well out at the turn, but Tony’ Victor broke,, and Native Star went ahead to win by n length and ;i half, with four lengths between second and third. Golden Grattan was fourth. Time. 4.38 2-5. Akarana Handicap, of 400 sovs.; one and a-quarter miles. —5 Bell Harold 1, 1 Bob Logan 2, 8 Run Pere 3. Also started : 4 Bold Bill. 7 Dad’s nope, 2 Mulwaree, 6 Pitaroa, 5 Goldman, 9 Lady Joan. Dad’s Hope and Mulwaree led over the early stages, but the latter was first into the straight, being followed by Ilua Pere, Pitaroa, and Bob Logan. At the distance Bell Harold came up on the outside and won by a length, with one length and a half between second and third. Time, 2.45 1-5.

Grandstand Handicap, of 500 sovs.; (wo miles.—3 The Shrew 1,2 Native Prince 2, 8 Rockbnrn 3. Also started : 11 King Pointer, 10 Orphan, 9 Quality, 5 Gold Jacket, 1 Great Actress, 14 Direct Morning, 4 Uncle Bert, 12 Dick Dillon, 13 Daimenv, 7 Florent, 6 Nelson Fame. Happy Rosa and Sister Beatrice showed out from a good start, followed closely bv Waikaha. Napland and Sister Beatrice led into the straight from Waikaha, Betty Moko and Escapade. Waikaha did best in the run home and won by half a length, with a head between second’ and third. Escapade was fourth. Time, 4.36 2-5.

St. Heliers Handicap, of SCO sovs.; one and a-quartcr miles. —3 First Carbine 1, 7 Hue Coronado 2, 8 Lord Nepean 3. Also started: 10 Anselm, 4 Amaris, 2 Black Lila, 5 Lady Dunmore, 6 Nelson Tasker, 9 All Bell, 1 Concliff. The race developed into something approaching a tragedy, as in front of the stand at the end of the first round there was a serious accident, and every horse came down except First Carbine, Hue Coronado, Lord Nepean. Amaris. First Carbine and Hue Coronado were well away when the accident occurred, and fought out first and second places. The Other two pulled up, but went on to contest third money. There were no serious injuries except to Snow, driver of Amaris, who had a shoulder dislocated. Phipps, the rider of Black Lila? was thrown against the rails and suffered from bruises and shock. Time, 2.54 2-5.

TUI AVILDAVOOD AGAIN The South AVairarupa trotting meeting concluded in Masterton on Tuesday in fine weather. The totalisator handled £6134 10s, against £6499 10s on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £15,083, a decrease of £SO. Results: —
