AHURIRI AYINS CUP.

The summer meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club opened on Tuesday in glorious weather. There was an attendance of about 32,000, and some first-class racing was witnessed. The track was hard and dry, and large fields were the order of the day. The totalizator receipts amounted to £87,067 10s., against £75,319 10s. on the corresponding day of last year, an increase of £12.288. Results: —

Light took the lead early and maintained it throughout to win by a length and a half from Nelson Boy, with Anseline three lengths away third. Raima was fourth. Time, 3.35 1-5.

Going across the top positions were little changed, but at the turn Machine Gun took the lead from Ahuriri, Jack Potts, and Great Bingen, Ahuriri then came up in great stylo, and fought out an exciting finish to win by a head from Jack Potts. , Machine Gun was two lengths away, third, and Great Bingen fourth, a length and a half away. Parnell Handicap, of 500 sovs., 2 miles: 1 Native Star. 1, 3 Tony Victor 2, 16 Tiger Salve 3. Also started: 10 Anselm, 4 Amaris, 2 Black Lila, 5 Lady Dunmore, 6 Nelson Tasker, 9 All Bell, 1 Concliff. The race developed into something approaching a tragedy, as in front of the stand at the end of the first round there was a serious accident, and every horse came down except First Carbine, Hue Coronado, Lord Nepean. Amaris. First Carbine and Hue Coronado were well away when the accident occurred, and fought out first and second places. The Other two pulled up, but went on to contest third money. There were no serious injuries except to Snow, driver of Amaris, who had a shoulder dislocated. Phipps, the rider of Black Lila? was thrown against the rails and suffered from bruises and shock.
