A STRIKING INSTANCE (Received December 29, 2 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Dee. 29. As illustrating tbe stern discipline exercised by the Seamen's Union over its members, the bos’n of one of the Common wealth steamers was charged at a meeting with carrying tales about certain happenings in the forecastle to the mate. The. bos’n offered an explanation, but the meeting adjudged hini. guilty, and ordered him to give 24 hours’ notice of his intention to leave the vessel, and also not to seek re-employment in the Commonwealth Line for 12 months. It is understood that the bos’n will undertake to carry out the dictates of the union.
