Broadcasting of Plays

The broadcasting of plays is becoming an outstanding important feature of the Australian stations. The difficulty about the drama by radio, of course, is that the actors are unseen, and all the stage “business,” which •'is the making of some plays, and upon which noted actors have built their reputations, has to be suggested either by words or by sounds.

The Sydney station 2FC has prepared a- number of famous plays, which are now being broadcast. The first was “The Lady of Lyons,” which was broadcast on November 9. Others in the series are “His House in Order” (November 24); “Nothing but the Truth” (December 1); “The Prisoner of Zenda” (December 8); “Royal Divorce” (December 14); “The Christian” (December 19); “The Sign of the Cross” (December 23); and “A Message from Mars” (December 29). Mr. Scott Alexander and Mr. W. H. Varna, both experienced actors, are taking the'; leading parts in theso plays. The dramatic company sits' round a long table with the radio microphones.
