I The O.tago Power Board is actively reaching out. Lawrence is at present the westernmost receiver of electricity, but within a month Beaumont will also bo linked up, and the board is doing all it can to complete the reticulating of the area that it touches. Owaka is nibbling for contact, and the big district that includes Middlemareh, Ranfurly, and Naseby is the subject of advocacy by the Otago League, so that its representations are sure to toe earnestly considered. Three schemes tor carrying the energy to far-away Naseby are talked about as worthy of inquiry. First of these is transmission from Waipori. The difficulty about that is measurable—it is as to the distance through a sparse population. The second proposition is to develop the latent supply of water-power from Patearoa or Sowburn. The third is to await the doings of the Public Works Department in stretching its huge transmission line which is eventually to bring into one the resources of Waitaki, Waipou, and Monowai. The probabilities just now point to an investigation of the local sources as the urst step..
The view that swimming-baths at Point Chevalier arc both desirable and necessary having been expressed by the commissioners investigating the application by Dixieland Ltd., the Auckland Cilv Council has decided to seek the authority of ratepayers for the j^ 1 ' ing of a sum hot exceeding £12,000 for the erection of the baths'. '*l don't see now tfie Royat Show is going to bo a success held alternately in the North and South Islands," said' Mr. J. Hart, of Tatuahui, who judged the Friesian cattle- at Christchurck. He said that there were. only v ohs or two beasts representing the, Auckland province, and entries from the North Island provinces were almost negligible.. Last year, when the Royal Show was Held in Auckland, very little stock came from the south. The present state of things made it impossible for the , ordinary bieeder to exhibit at the show when it was held at a distance. He cited the case of a Hawke's Bay breeder, \vho (in one occasion took' stock to the .South Island, the cost amounting to £3OO.
