HAWKE CUP
' CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION (Special to" the Herald.) CHRISTCHURUH, this day. At a meeting of the management committee of tiie Mew Zealand Cricket Council tho secretary read a letter to the Minor Associations advising tho conditions for the Hawko Cup. The letter stated that the question of the system under which tho trophy should be competed for during the present season was brought forward for discussion at the recent conference of delegates to the council, when it was decided for the present season that the competition be continued under the present grouping system as follows : 'Waikato, Waiapu, Poverty Bay, . Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Wanganui, ltangitikei, ' Alanawatu, Wairarapa, Southern Hawke's Bay, West Coast, Buller, Marlborough, .Nelson, South Canterbury, Ashburton, .North Otago, and Soutlhahd. The group winners have the right to challenge the holders of the cup, but the management committee retains the right to arrange the order and priority under which the challenges will bo played, bearing in mind that the holders will not be called upon to play more than a reasonable number of challenge matches in any season. , The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary, asking their opinion.
As to a recommendation submitted by the sub-committee appointed by the minor associations, that there be a second competition open to tho lower divisions of the minor associations, which would Declassified for the purpose according to playing strength, it was decided to advise that the recommendation of tho sub-committee was being considered and would bo submitted to the associations.
