(P.A. Messages.) Leslie Alwyn Olson McKenzie, 17, who was sentenced to a Borstal institution for two years, escaped from Timaru gaol yesterday. Tho Napier Harbor Board Empowering Bill. The Napier Harbor Board Empowering Bill was also read a second time' on the motion of Mr. J. Mason,, and both Bills were put through the final stages and passed. When Mr. J, L. Bennett, of Christchurch returned from a day's' outing on Sunday, he found, a thief had entered his house, broken open and robbed the children's money boxes, and taken the keys of his cyclo shop in Cashel street. Later, it was found that the shop had been ransacked and all* the money in the till, about £B, had been taken, and,the safe opened and searched. The keys were found yesterday morning ' in an alleyway beside the shop.. Both robberies oceurrod in daylight. Forty-seven applications for' loan's, totalling £374,590, were dealt with by tho Local Bodies Loans Roard in . Wellington yesterday. Eight renewal loans for £128,100 were sanctioned with sinking funds ranging from 2 per cent. 1 upwards with a vieW to liquidating these loans , within a reasonable period. Twenty-six new loans were sanctioned for the, full amount of £126,890. In 10. applications for £106,400 part sanction was given for -£83.583, the' balance, £22,817, being deferred or declined. Three applications were declined. When tho Legislative Council met yesterday, the Native Land Amdndmeut and Native Laud Claims Adjustment Bills, and the Reserves and Other Lands; Disposal Bill' were reported from the committees without amendments. The! amendments proposed by the Governors Message, in the Local 'Legislation Bill were reported without amendment from the standing committee, and agreed to; Progress was reported on the Education Reserves Amendment Bill, after a brief discussion in committee, and the Council adjourned at 2.65 in order to listen to Mi-.
