ELECTRIC POWER

AMENDING LEGISLATION (Per Press Association.) WELLLNGTON, last night. The second reading of the Electric Power Board's Amendment Bill 'was moved by the Minister of Public Works to-night. " Mr. E. J. Howard raised the question o* how the City of Christchurch would fare under the Bill. In his opinion a power board in an "outer area" could "rope-in" the city, which they would be very glad to do. » The Prime Minister said he was of opinion that the "license" held by the City .of Christchurch would prevent it being "roped in" by the outer board. Mr. Howard said if that were so, well and good, but it was his duty to protect the city, and be was going to do so. Sir Joseph Ward raised several quesof local interest to Southland power boards which the Minister promised yo look into. Local aspects of the Bill was discussed by other members. The Attorney-General, in reply, said that under definition of "outer area" " under the Act of 1925, the City of Christchurch could not possibly be absorbed by any power board iii the outer area. TJie Minister of Public Works, in reply, confirmed this view, but agreed to have the clause further looked into. The Bill was read a second time.
