FIRST QUARTER'S SURPLUS (Received Nov. 18, 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, Nov. 18. The Federal Treasurer's financial statement for the first, quarter of the financial rear discloses a surplus of £155,136, 'compared with £2,075,000 at the same stage last year. The reason 'for the decrease is that large sums were used for sinking fund purposes this vear. which last year were applied to the" sinking fund at a later period. ■ The statement shows that the Customs revenue for the quarter amounts t<> £11,255,862, which is £300,000 i" fiX « SK of the estimate. i
