Heavy rain in the Manawatu during the past few days has caused those people living in low-lying areas whoso farms are subjected to Hooding, after many hours ol incessant downpour, some concern. On Tuesday night the Manawatu river had / risen little, and showed no appreciable difference in its level, but-the Oroua river was a. torrent, running bank 'high, while other stroams throughout the district were also uswollen.l Motorists arriving at. Palmerston from Wellington stated that gt'hcre were severaL slips' on the Paekakariki hill, although tho falls of earth vr&re not sufficiently large to prevent the passage of traffic.
