UNLICENSED WHISKY STILL
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. As the sequel to a raid on a whisky still at Mount Albert on Saturday, John McSWeeney pleaded guilty in the Police Court to being in possession of an unlicensed still, and John Newman Lyons guilty to having knowledge and supplying an unlicensed still. Each was fined £25. Accuseds' counsel stated that McSWeeney had conceived the still as a result of experiments with milk cooling apparatus. His client had put his savings into the concern, besides two years' labor, and iioW Stood to lose everything. The magistrate observed that the legislature looked upon the emitter as serious, and if lie thought the still'had been successfully operated the maximum penalty would have to be inflicted.
