BOOKMAKING ALLEGED
CLIENT WHO PUNCHED ACCUSED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. A charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker on August (i was preferred against Harry Marks in the Police Court to-day. William Henry Bonner said he took a double from Marks at £2O to 5, Beau Cavalier in the Grand National Steeples, and WharncliflV in the Grand National Hurdles. Both horses won', but' when asked about paying out Marks said he would pay when he pleased. They had an argument, and witness said he punched accused. The following day he again asked accused to pay him, arid accused said Aviwtness was anything lint a, gentleman, because he called at his house for the money. Evidence was given by the police regarding' other alleged bookmaking transactions on the part of accused. Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence, aud was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
