PACIFIC FLIGHT
GILES’ INTENTIONS RADIO DISPENSED WITH (Australian and N.Z. Cable Associa'ioti.' (Received Nov. 10, 1 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 9. Captain F A. Giles stated that the reports of stormy weather in Iho Pacific will not prevent his hopping off for Honolulu on Friday morning. He said : “I have been 100 miles out at sea in all kinds of weather during the war, and those old pusher type planes were much more dangerous than our modern ships." His biplane, the Wanda, to which repairs were completed yesterday, was put through a short flight test and declared satisfactory by Captain Giles. He will carry 450 gallons of petrol with special, pump valves, insuring that the plane will float, indefinitely if forced to land on water. Army officials at Honolulu had planned to aid Captain Giles with radio beacons, but is has been learned that the Wanda will not carry radio equipment. Surprise is expressed at Captain Giles decision to dispense with radio.
