SUMMER TIME

(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, —I read with interest in your columns of Saturday htli, “Air. Sidey s Hopes" for ( the people of New Zealand on the coming into force of the Daylight Savings Hill. On the whole it seems excellent. We all agree, that for the workers in towns it is splendid, but why treat the fanner as a child, and tell him all the benefits he will derive from the extra hour of daylight. In the majority of cases the farmer does not. miss much of it. Had a higher note been struck, and ho had been asked to bear with any inconveniences for the sake of his less fortunate brother the town worker, it would have made more appeal to Ins good nature. We tell children, that although they do not like going to school it is for their benefit. Another thing the farmer resents is to be told that, as he gets up before daylight most of the winter, he will hardly notice the- extra hour in the summer.’ the deliverer of milk must, feel thankful that, he at least has lull sympathy. Surely most adult people realise even in winter, that the summer days will come round again long and hot. One can hardly imagine that the fact of the Summer Time Hill being brought to people’s notice in the winter, would be the cause of its being rejected for so long. As far as we can we shall, conform to our new environment, with as little grumbling as possible (we are built that way), and if we are riot able to get our morning's cream to the factory in time, we shall’ be buoyed up by the hope of a superline grade. I am, etc., SEHAKATOH,
