YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. In the House to-night on the motion of the Hon. R, A. Wright the Child Welfare Amendment Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Education Committee. The Hon. F. J. Rolleston moyed the second reading of the Mortgages Indemnity (Workers Charges) Bill, of which a full explanation was telegraphed upon its introduction. The Bill was read a second time without debate. Later the Bill was reported from committee without amendment. The amendment made by the Legislative Council in the Tongariro National Park Amendment Bill were agreed to, nothwithstanding, said the Premier, that,such an amendment was a breach of the privileges of the House, and such waiving of the privileges of the House was not. to be taken as a precedent. The Property Law Amendment Bill was further considered in committee. The amendments made by the Statutes Revision Committee were read into the Bill. The Minister said the clause was intended to bring about uniformity in the Public Service. The post, and telegraph service was growing rapidly, and provision had to be made to meet the extension. The head of the department should know who should he promoted in the department. The clause was agreed to. The Bill was reported with formal amendments, moved by the Minister, read a third time, and passed. Replying to the Hon. D. Buddo, the Prime Minister said that in view ot recent numerous accidents the Railway Department would consider the question of substituting “wigwags” for bell,s atthe railway crossings in and around Christchurch. The Legislative Council inet. at 3.30 p.ni. The Electoral Bill and the intermediate Rural Credit Bill wore • put through-their final stages and . passed without amendment. After dealing with two local Bills, the Chamber adjourned at 5.10 p.m. until to-morrow.
