For the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting the totalisator put through £13,882, against £11,852 last, year—an increase of £2030.

Wild Pigeon and .Scrambler were left at the start of the Hagley Handicap. Grand National, Starflight and Don Jose were the first to show out, rounding the far turn. Wayward, Starflight and Don Jcsc were in command at the home turn, where Grand National took the lead again. Grand National was still in front when the straight was entered, with Wayward and Don Jose next. Over the last stretch, Oratrix came very fast to win by a length, with Wanderlust another length away third. Lady Desmond was badly left at the start of .the Metropolitan Handicap, and Pink Note was slow to move. Beacon Light led entering the straighe, followed by Bcnnanee, Footfall, Count Cavour, and Yoma. In a good finish Te Monanui beat Beacon. Light by a length, Footfall being a neck away third. Bcnnanee was fourth.

Amor and Fair Exchange piloted the field to the home turn, where Bronstell took charge and led iuto the straight. Rotor made a strong run from the distance, and went on ,to win by a length from Bronstell, who was a head in front of Fair Exchange. Vigilance was fourth. Time, 1.20" 3-5. Epsom Handicap, one mile: 12 G. F. Drury's Rascal 8.5 (F. Wadddl) 1; 6 Vertigeru 8.5 (B. H. Morris) 2; 4 Vesperus 8.1 (T. Green) 3. Also startod: 8 Centrepiece, 3 Tiega, 5 Nincompoop, I Black Duke, 2 Monghan, 7 Assurance, 9 Margaret Birncy. 10 Sir Roy, II Ophir, 15 Arpent, 10 Peho, 13 Gold Mint. Rascal led from the barrier rise, and was first into the straight from Vertigeru, A'csperus and Tioga. Vertigeru finished well, but was unable to overhaul Rascal, who won by a length and a-half, with Vosperus ihyec-quarters of a length away third. Thorndale was fourth. Time, 1.40 3-5.
