PARLIAMENTARIANS' PAY
NO INCREASE, BUT MORE TICKETS (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Members had become aware of tho Government's decision not to increase their honoraria this session, but they awaited a, statement from the Prime Minister, which Mr. Coates made last night. "This matter," he said, "has been discussed on the floor of the House, and has been brought before the notice of the Government by members belonging to all parties, and I desire to say that while the Government recognises the heavy nature of the demands made on members' resources in the discharge of their Parliamentary duties it is not prepared to submit a proposal in this connection to Parliament this session.'/
A request also had been made, he said, that there should be an increase in the number,' of steamer tickets to members using the inter-Island ferry steamers in the course of their duties, and the Government was prepared to do this and make an announcement when the details were finalised.
