CRICKET MANAGEMENT

P.B. ASSOCIATION MEETS There was a good attendance at the weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, held last evening. Mr. H. E. Maude presiding over the gathering. There were also present Messrs G. McGregor, A. Baker, G. Lynex. A. G. Seddon. V. C. R, Mitford, J.' M. Kay, F. Bennett, G. Lockett and R. W. Cumming. Among the correspondence was :. reference to the eliminating match b<* tween Poverty Bay and Waiapu representatives, for the' privilege of challenging for the Hawke Cup. The Waiapu Association advised that November 21 and 22 would be the most suitable dates from its point of view, and it was derided to accept the dates suggested. The proposed presentation to Mr. T K. Sidey. M.P., sponsor of the Summer Time Act in New Zealand, was brought before the association in a letter, • in which were..enclosed subscription, lists which the. association was asked to cir eulnte. Tt was decided that the lists be left with .Mr E. C. Fox. at Tattersall and Bayly's, and that subscriptions hi: limited to Is per person. At the suggestion of club delegates, if. was decided to erect the. nets so that two teams may practice each night on the Oval. Complaint was made that the glass on, the Domain was in need of cutting, and the grounds committee was asked to have the matter attended to.

With regard to the Thursday competition, it was reported that Common, Shelton, and Co.'s staff was not entering a team, as had been-expected, for the senior competition. The draw for Thursday's, senior game brought City and Soft Goods together, their match being fixed for No. 1 wicket at the Oval. while Cash Stores and High School will meet on No. 2 wicket. The junior competition will be started, the draw being as for last week, when the competition matches fell through.

Saturday's junior matches, which art limited to'one dav, will 'be played as follows: Old Boys v. Celtic, No. 2 wicket at the Oval, High School A v. High School B, on the school ground. The number of rounds in the competition has not been decided as yet, but will be determined according to the exigencies of the season. A junior competition advisory board, comprising Messrs. Pasley, Lee and Jordon. was appointed to maintain touch between the association and the Saturday junior teams. The Thursday teams were also asked to recommend appointments for an advisory board on the same lines.

New registrations were received as follows : L.' J. McCullough (Gisborne), W. Lanjjlands and K. Davey (Old Boys), F.. H. Wright, D. McLood, and A. Bound (Turanganui), J. Cornelius (Civil Service), and B. Cato (Celtic). The chairman requested the delegates to advise the secretary of the results of matches played as soon as possible after their conclusion. THE SCORING TABLE.

There was some discussion on the matter of points scoring in connection with the senior championship games, but no definite conclusion was readied, the hon. secretary. Mr. R. W. Cumming, giving notice of his intention to move at the next meetink that the system adopted at the first gathering of the management. committee be abandoned, and'a new scheme adopted. The motion to be discussed is as follows: "That a preliminary complete round be played by the teams in the senior (Saturday) competition and 1 that, at the end of; such round, the four leading teams be classed as A' grade: teams and the remaining teams as 'B' grade teams. Each grade will then play off a fresh, round, the winners of the 'A' grade competition to be awarded the Barry Cup and the 'B' grade the Cranney Cup. In the event of a tie in points between nny two or more teams at the end of the preliminary round, the executive is to decide the method of classification of such teams for the second round."

It is the intention of the mover _to avoid a position similar to that which arose last year, when Celtic gained in the first round so strong a lead that players in the weaker teams lost interest to some extent. If the motion is carried the points scored in the preliminary round will merely establish a club's standing in either the stronger or the weaker division, and will havo no bearing upon' the championship. TOKOMARU BEATS WAIPIRO. (Herald Correspondent.) A junior grade match was played at Tokomaru Bay on Saturday, when Tokomaru Bay again defeated Waipiro Bay by an innings and 60 runs. Yeoman's stand at the wicket was the feature of the day, and his score of 52 was compiled in elegant manner. Scores: — . ' WAIPIRO BAY.—First Innings.
