On Saturday night the juvenile fraternity duly celebrated the gunpowder plot by bonfires. There was much letting off of fireworks. One of the High School pupils, a son of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Pryde, met with an unusual accident. He was carrying a bottle of chlorate of potassium, and, stumbling, the bottle fell and exploded. Master Pryde was severely burned from thigh to knee. * He was taken to hospital, where he is making good progress. Last Sunday in St. Andrew's Church being what is known as, "Clolden Sunday," a day of special effort, on behalf of the church funds, there were large congregations both morning and evening. The choir rendered a number of special sacred numbers, and it is understood the financial result was very satisfactory. The clocks and watches of most people in Wairoa have been put on an hour, and the first two days under the provisions of the Summer Time Act have been passed. Already the people are falling in with the new system. The" congregation at St. Andrew's Church on Sunday night was somewhat startled by eight or 10 explosions of rockets or basket bombs close to the building. No doubt juveniles were responsible, and it shows bad taste on the part of those who do not go to church to disturb those who do. The secretary of the local dairy factory company stated on Saturday that it is proposed, at a meeting to be held shortly, to promulgate a change in the constitution of the Wairoa Dairy Factory in the direction of making it a co-operative concern.
