STATEMENT OF WHARE CARROLL A petition in bankruptcy has been filed by Whare Carroll, a native settler, who has made the following statement : . " After returning from the war in 1918 I was in ill-health for some time, and was not able to do any work. 1 received a pension for about 18 months or two years, and then my pension was cut off. For the past six years I have resided in Gisborne, and' at Wainui, and I have' from time to time worked for my relatives in and about Gisborne, but I have not been in regular employment. I have recently had obtained against me a judgment in respect of a motor-car accident, and 1 a warrant of distress has 'been issued against me; another creditor is also pressing me in respect, of a judgment obtained some time ago for ear hire. The judgment obtained in respect of the motor-car accident was obtained in my absence, and I intended to defend it; T was under the impression that the claim was being defended on my behalf. When I took advice with a view to obtaining a rehearing I found that it was too late. I have no assests and cannot meet the judgments obtained against me and regret that I am unable to make any offer to my creditors." It isas shown that the total debts amounted to £173 19s 3d, all of which was awing to two unsecured creditors, £32 Os 6d to Robert Littler, of Gisborne, and £l4l 18s 9d to R. G. Cooper, of Wainui. The, assets arc nil. A meeting of creditors has been summoned for 11 a.m. on Friday, November
