CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE CONFERENCE

The conference of tlio Associated Chambers of Commerce was resumed to-day, Air. 1). J. McGowa.n presiding. It was resolved : “That the Government he urged to use its influence to bring about t lio modification or removal of tlio restrictions of ('heap-rate cable messages imposed by tlio Telegraph Convention in 1925, the opinion being that the restrictions hinder free development of interKmpire trades.” Other motions carried included : /l 'That the Government be urged to establish tourist offices or agencies in other parts of the world in addition to those already in Australia.” “That the conference makes inquiry as to the likely reception by commercial circles and by religious denominations and by others affected of tin proposal to stabilise the date of Eiister.” A remit urging a better general passenger service between Australia and -New Zealand was lost. Mr. A. Ti.i Mackreli, Invercargill, said that what was wanted was to remove the disabilities under which the south suffered in respect in the .service with Australia. The South was not concerned so much with the typo of steamers as with the regular Service.
