Johnny Keefe, £4 17s 6d forthwith. At the last gathering of the Scottish Society the winners of the 500-card tournament were Mcsdames W. Times and G. Hislop, and Messrs Christenson and Sinclair.
The Wairoa Dairy Factory Co. paid out on Thursday about £4OOO to suppliers of butter fat for September. This includes the usual seasonal bonus. A native, Jack Waina, was charged .at the Magistrate's Court with having committed a. breach of the Licensing Act by procuring liquor on September 24. Mr. Chamberlain, for accused, pleaded not guilty. Mr. E. C. Levvey. S.M., fined defendant £2, with costs £3 18s, in deTault 14 days' imprisonment. During the week Mrs. 1,. A. Clark, who is leaving with her husband, who takes up a. position in Auckland, was tendered a farewell at vicarage. Mrs. Clark was the recipient of some choice pieces of Sherraton ware. Mrs. W. Taylor, in handing over the gifts, expressed regret at Mrs. Clark's departure, and wished her the be.st of luck in her new sphere. " Mrs. Clark suitably responded.
The Wairoa Boxing Association last night gave Mr. Arthur Corskie a hearty send-off on the eve of his departure for Waingawa. A number of speeches were made, appreciation being expressed at the services rendered to the association by the guest, and wishing him success in his new sphere of duty. The chairman, Mr. J. Svenson, asked him to accept a silver cigarette case and holder, suitably inscribed, as a slight mark o! their esteem. Air. Corskie. suitably replied.
