WAIAPU HOSPITAL BOARD
THE MONTHLY MEETING At the monthly meeting of the Waiapu Hospital Board, Mr. W. Gates presided. Other members present were Messrs. A. B. Williams, F. J. Williams, C. H. McCracken, A. W. Kirk, M. Hyland and H. H. Fairlie. The Director-General of Health advised that the plans and specifications of the proposed hospital additions would be prepared in about a fortnight. The same officer also wrote with reference to the secretary's enquiry regarding the cost of eonveymo Maori typhoid patients to the hospital, expressing the opinion that such a charge, should be met by the board and not by the Health Department.—lt was decided to pay the claims.
A letter-from the Hospital Boards' Association expressed appreciation of the board's attention to enquiries in connection with a national tuberculosis organisation. The association also reported that it had taken up with the department the matter of accommodating persons suffering from senile decay in Old People's Homes. A special Dominion institution for half-way. cases was advocated by the association. The board's opinion was that as this would mean heavy expenditure, the better way would be. to have extra attendants and special wards of a suitable type attached to existing mental hospitals, and the secretary was instructed to advise the association accordingly. The, medical superintendent's report showed that 16 patients had been admitted to the hospital during September. 17 discharged and 10 remained. There had been one major operation, and six operations of a minor nature. It was decided to call fresh tenders, to close before the next meeting, for the supply of stores, meat and bread to Te I'uia Hospital.
