Tho following casus were disposed of by Mr R 0. Levvey, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court in Wairuu, at tho recent sittings: Charles Frederick Robertson was charged that on July 5 at Auckland he failed to provide for hia wife, Emily Esther Robertson, who asked for separation and maintenance. —Defendant was remanded to appear at Auckland on October 28.
Tapuao Karauriu, charged with, having been found drunk in Carroll street on October 16, pleaded guilty and "as convicted and discharged. For procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order he pleaded guilty and was fined £2 and costs, in default 14 da\h' imprisonment. Karl YVilhelm Wilson, charged with being idle and disorderly, pleaded guilty. He '-was convicted and discharged. Thomas Randall pleaded guilty to a. charge of aiding in the commission of the offence of consuming liquor at Mohaka, and was lined 10s and costs. A prohibition order was issued against him on his own request. A native named "So-So" Ngakuru, who was implicated', was lined 20s and costs. Jimmy Tahi, with many convictions against him, was charged with having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. He pleaded guilty and was fined JC2, with costs, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Leonard Storey (Mr Sainsbuvy) pleaded guilty to procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Fined £5, in default 30 days' imprison ment.
Charles To Kakika (Mr P. H. Jones) pleaded guilty to haying entered licensed premises on September 22. Fined £3, was costs 15s, in default 21 days' imprisonment. Peter Lawrence Dillon, who pleaded guilty, was charged with using obscene language on October 15 ou the Wairoa traffic bridge. Thomas Patrick Twomey also pleaded guilty to committing a similar offence. Dillon Was lined £1 and costs, and Twomey was admitted to probation for 12 months, and to pay costs. Thomas Randall was charged with having used obscene language on the Mohaka road on September 24. A plea of guilty was entered and he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and to pay costs.
Alexander S. MeKenzie (Mr Chamberlain) was charged that on September 24 be drove a motor car without the current year's license plates being attached. Fined £l, and casts 10s.
James lieleau (Mr Green) was charged by the Borough Council (Mr Chamberlain) with having on October 10 driven a motor car without having a license to do so. Fined 10s and costs.
E. V. Heffernan, baker (Mr F. H. Jones) pleaded guilty to a breach of the bakers' and pastrycooks' award by failing to keep an overtime and wages hook. Mr P. IT. Kinsman, who represented the Labor Department, stated that be had complaints, and 1 on visiting defendant's bakery lie was unable to produce tho book.—Mr Jones said his client was in the unfortunate position that ho had imly recently started ou his own account, and formerly no hands were employed. It was only a technical breach.—Fined £l, with costs £1 ss.
Karl Wilhclm .Wilson was charged that at Wairoa on October 18 he stole certain articles, of a total value of £4 13s 6d, the property of H. H. Lyall. Evidence was given by F. J. Martin that the goods had been left at Marker's office, and that they were missed after accused left tho office, where he had been on repatriation business.— George Howell stated that tho accused left the parcel in his shop and did not come back for it.—Hugh Lyall. jr., also gave evidence. Accused, who offered no defence, was sentenced to 18 months' reformative treatment.
