The Prince of Wales lias approved the gift, in commemoration of his visit, ot Canadian-gyown peony plants to every city town and village m the Dominion, :,„'t it is suggested that, the peony should .bo adopted as Canadas floral emblem. An occurrence w hich is bound to lead to a good deal of discussion among, anglers on account of the conjecture it raises is reported from Eketahuna. Mr. .1. S. Tripe landed three good-sized trout from the Makakahi river. Due of these tish was full of whitebait and another iish had a smaller quantity, while the third had no trace of any. The whitebait were of the true variety and apparently were just freshly eaten. The point raised is whether the whitebait have come 40 or 50 miles up tho river from the sea or whether the trout have run a similar distance. The freshness of the small iish appears to be against the latter theory.
