HOSPITAL DAIRY FARM

SATISFACTORY POSITION BENEFIT OF TOP-DRESSING The quarterly report by the manager of the hospital dairy farm to the Cook Hospital Board at its monthly meeting yesterday afternoon revealed a satisfactory state of affairs, the manager observing' that the new grass was coming away remarkably well, -and the stock were aIL in excellent condition.

The working account of the farm for the month showed an excess of receipts over payments amounting to £B6 4s lid, the receipts being as follow : Sale of pigs, £2O Is 6d; sale of butter fat, £24 13s 1(M; refund, 4s 6d; supplies to institutions, £ll2 2s 6d. The payments were: Wages, £39 10s; hoard and residence, £7; ’phone rental, £3 16s; lorry upkeep including insurance, £6 Os 8d; testing fees,, £ll 11s 6d; cattle brand, £1 2s 6d; sundries, £1 17s 9rl. The manager’s report for the quarter ended September 30 was as follows: — “With the good rains experienced this winter, the grass, is coming away remarkably web. We are reaping the full benefit of top-dressing of the pastures, which we have been doing as far as funds will permit. The stock are all in particularly good condition, the young heifers coming on well. We are sending a considerable quantity of cream to the •factory, and this is likely to increase for some time. The autumn and winter sown oats are looking particularly well; wo have not required them for winter teeding so intend making ensilage, the land to be put down in permanent pasture and other land broken up for winter feed. The pipe draining has been completed and is doing good work, carrying all surface water to the main open drain. Alfalfa Perfection dropped a fine heifer calf on July 31; Ribbonwood Girlie dropped a nice bull on Otober 1. The pigs arc giving good indications of being a very profitable sideline this year. The electrical milking plant has been installed and is giving good results.”
