COOK COUNTY COUNCIL

THE MONTHLY MEETING The Cook County Council met today, there being present; Crs. Clias. Matthews (chairman), W. G. Slierratt J. C. N. Thomas, J. E. Benson, (}. Witters, M. T. B. Hall, E. H. Baker. J. Tombleson, and W. G. MacLanrin Leave of absence was granted to Crs 0. Gibson, M. L. Holden, and F. 8. Bowen.

Terming himself the largest ratepayer in his district, Mr. J. R. Murphy, of Tangihau, wrote drawing attention to the .state of his road, and adding that the rides lie paid warranted him a decently metalled road up lo his home stead, in.stead-of one that was not .safe. He would have difficulty in getting his wool out unless the road 1 received im mediate attention, lie added that he paid £l4 as a special rate.—The chairman stated that as far as lie could gather this amount was for the formation of the road in 1906.—The engineer stated that there was now nothing to prevent the wool being carted over the load.—The matter was left to the riding member and: engineer. Messrs. Coleman and Coleman, solicitors, on behalf of the late Mr. Henry White's executors, asked the council for permission to have the pipe line along the county road at Hexton embodied in the form of an easement in order that registration might he completed to link up the intervening rights. The pipe line for a private water supply had been installed at the property "known as " Acton" some 20 years ago. A number of easements were registered for the source of supply on the late Mr. Percival Barker's estate, but so far as the line along the road was concerned no easement was ever registered. The recpiest amounted to the asking of a formal confirmation of what the council permitted many years ago, and no new or further rights were sought.—The chairman staled that in cases such as this, permission was given at the pleasure of tlie council and as long as the pipe line was not hindering any works it was not disturbed. On his' motion, pel-mission for the pipe line to remain at the pleasure of the council was granted.

Mr. P. H. Hills, of Malawhero, asked the council to give him an outlet from Lis property at the mouth of the. Awapuni lagoon, the erosion that had taken place recently having completely blocked the.'present access.—Tile matter was referred' to (he riding member and engineer.

The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. 'Downie Stewart, advised that the Hangaroa-Tahora No. 4 special loan of £sooo_ had been exempted from the provisions of the Local Government Loans Act, 1926.
