BLOW TO UNIONS
UNITED STATES DECISION INJUNCTIONS GRANTED (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) WASHINGTON, Oct. IS. The United States Supreme Court tendered an important decision, upholding the injunctions issued by the Lower Courts restraining union employees from :i resolution to certain acts in furtherance of strikes. Several cases were decided by one group involving efforts by John Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers of. America !o conduct a campaign to unionise the coal mines of West Virginia. The court declared legal certain injunctions which were issued, restraining the union from threatening employees of non-union mines or interfering with the business of these r'ines.
Other groups involved several union tramway workers, who were charged villi having attempted to persuade tramway employees to strike and stay on strike. The unions attacked the constitution of these iiijunct ions on the ground tint they interfere with efforts tn secure further members for their organisation.
