The prevalent, drought in the Cape midlands is described officially as the worst for 79 years. No good rains have fallen for five years in the six stricken areas, 6000 families being kepi alive by relief measures. Millions- of sheep are dead, and the loss in the six districts alone is estimated at £3,000,000.
