GISBORNE FIRE BRIGADE
THE A2TNIJAL MEETING
The Gisborne Fire Brigade, members assembled' last evening Tor the 44th' annual meeting 1 , Superintendent J. Kane presiding over, the gathering, which comprised practically the whole of the brigade. ■ '<" - The review of the past year's, work, as made in the animal report, showed that '3O calls had been received dnrinf the year, two less thA last year. ' Losses! had again been very low considering the value of the property involved. A total of 04 musters had been held during the yertr, and the attendances were again very good, showing that members were keenly interested in the -woric. During the I year, Captain ,Hugo> Government Inspector of Fire Brigades, had paid a visit here and expressed hmiseli: as very pleased both with the brigade, and the plant. In October, a party comprising Firemen Griffin, Weston, ; m Wildish and Secretary Ferguson, attended the Napier Fire Brigade ■jubilee, where a very pleasant time was spent. Fireman Ledger and. Becretary Ferguson,also attended trio formal 'opening of the Wairoa brigade's new station. After many years of waiting, Gisborne had the : honor of being the scene of the T1.F.8.A. conference,'which was held ■from February 26 to March 4 last, and Was voted one, of the best held by the 1 association, everything from the .transportation df members from Napier and Rotorua and return, to the conference itself going without a hitch. The thanks of the brigade were expressed to the Citizens' Committee and the general public for tl-eir fine worh in raising -sufficient funds to entertain the visitors and also contribute £IOO towards the cost of'transport.. The belief was expressed that such gatherings were very beneficial to any town, to judge by the many letters of thanks an'd appreciation' received from brigades after their delegates had returned bvme. The funds of the brigade had remained fairly steady during the year. Donations and interest amounted' to £25 2s lOd, while relief granted amounts to £1 Is. Although the general funds showed a rather heavy debit ; btiiaifce, the year had been completed £3 Ms 4d ahead of last. The adoption of the annual, report and balance-sheet was moved by the chairman, who stated that the year had been Very successful, the .success, of the conference being .especially gratifving. Superintendent Kane touched tirion the fact that Mr. Morrison, an original member of the brigade who for many years had been : the eustodian at the "station, was still »with IhVffl after 4'4 years df service, n „d well able to.continue his excellent care of the equipment. He exI iwessed his thanks to Custodian Mornson and nlso to ■ assistant'custodian Wildishyand the officers of the brigade for the work done during the year. The 'inbtion for the adoption was car* ried unanimously. ' • .
