The New Zealanders began a match at Dundee to-day against a side representing Scottish counties. The attendance was small, only 300 being present.
Winning the toss the visitors went in, and though Bernau was disposed of at once, Oliver and Dempster mastered the howling and gave the visitors the upper hand. At the tea adjournment the score was two for 163, Dempster then being 82. He went on till he had reached 154, and quite outshone his .later eonferes whose play, with the exception of Mills, was only moderate.
Dempster hit freely all round the wicket, and had one six»and 16 fours in his total. The counties had a few minutes batting, and lost one wicket cheaply. Scores:— NEW ZEALAND—First Innings.
