DAUDET’S ESCAPE
AMAZEMENT IN PARIS WIDESPREAD SEARCH PAILS (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS, June 26. A widespread search lias failed to locate Baudot. Meanwhile France’s big laugh has turned to amazement at the success of the hoax which lias caused more trouble in Government circles than any other recent happening. Officialdom is •wondering to what extent Royalist and Communist propaganda has infiltrated the administration. A drastic inquiry is being held. The most unhappy man is the gaol administrator, who has been suspended within four months of his retirement on pension. The new Prefect of Police has also been stripped of the laurels he jvon a fortnight- ago by the dramatic arrest of Baudot RE-ARREST ORDERED (The Times.) LONDON, June 27. The Paris correspondent of Le Petit Farisien states that Cabinet has ordered tho re-arrest of Daudet.
