ATTEMPT TO HOLD UP BANK
ARMED, MASKED MAN PAILS
ADELAIDE, June 10. “ A daring attempt to hold up the ‘Port Lincoln branch of tho Bank of Australasia was made last night by an ... armed and masked man.
The Commissioner of Police stated
to-day that he had received a telegram from Sergeant Litchfield, indicating that an armed, masked man covered Mr. E. P. Williams, manager, ■with a revolver. The latter stepped hack immediately, and; slipping from the banking chamber, raised the alarm. The man left immediately. Investigations are being made. A number of burglaries have been reported in the district recently, and the police believe that the hold-up was not the work of an expert thief; The manager, Air. E. P. Williams, joined the Port Adelaide staff of the bank in October, 1899, and was transt ferred to Victoria in 1904. lie rejoined the Adelaide staff five years ago, and was Inter transferred to Port Lincoln. He is 43 years old, and has a wife and three children. Tho branch at Port Lincoln was established 65 years ago.
