A GAN DID BANKRUPT "Is it not a fact, money was lost in racing’” was tlu* somewhat pointed question put by Mr. Aleck, solicitor for a. creditor, to a bankrupt under examination at the office of the Official Assignee in Auckland. “No, sir,” replied Mr. Dunmore, Mr. Meek: But you Lave been at race meetings the last few days. Bankrupt admitted lie was at the races the previous day, and added: "1 have been going for lo years.” Mr. Meek : \ oil are known as a punter. Mr. Dunmore: Yes, 1 am a punter, but it lias always been profitable. I have not lost, money on racing. -Mr. Morris: You admit then that you have been going regularly to races? Bankrupt : Y es, I have done il for over 20 years. Mr. .Morris: That does not make it any better. You. have been going to races while you were doing nothing. “I. would like to know,” said a creditor, “if Mr. Dunmore backed Lady Dunmore?” 'll l is caused a smile, which grow into a laugh when bankrupt replied: ‘‘l did hack Lady Dunmore and got the dividend. I have always hacked her.” I lien the creditors after this interlude continued the ordinary business of the meeting.
