HORSES WIN A RACE WITH A MAN
LONDON, May 20. The six-day race at the Crystal Palace between Mr. C. \V. Hart, the Off-year-old long-distance runner, and the two horses, the Sheik and Spot Light, ridden by Mr. G. Tyrwhitt Drake, former Mayor of Maidstone, ended dramatically on Saturday, when Mr. Hart dropped out. The competitors left the mark at S a.m. on Saturday. “Horse” was then 01 miles ahead of “Mail.” Mr. Hart ran a few laps and dropped out, calling “Good morning” to Mr. Tyrwhitt Drake, and walked hack to his dressing room. The rider continued through the day, changing his mount at every two miles, at tire close of which his horses between them had covered 300 miles.
The challenge was made following a face last year, when Mr. Hftrt was successful. Mr. Tyrwhitt Drake was riot satisfied that a running man could heat, horses in an endurance test of this nature, and, as events have shown, his opinion was correct. Mr. Hart has, however, issued a further challenge. J * ______
