Mr. Fisk, managing director of Amalgamated Wireless, Ltd., giving evidence before the Wireless Commission, suggested the equipment of lighthouses with wireless apparatus capable of sending signals for a radius of 25 miles. He added that if Gabo lighthouse had been equipped with such apparatus, and the steamer Riverina had a suitable receiver, the vessel would not have been lost.

LONG DISTANCE BROADCASTING It is a far ay from New York to Gisborne, but listeners-in last evening were clearly able to hear music and speech transmitted from the United States metropolis and relayed through 2FO Sydney. The transmitting station was WGY Schenectady, New York, which was heard about 8.35 (New Zealand time) broadcasting jazz music. About 20 minutes later Mr. Syme, a visitor to New York from Melbourne, commenced to speak, telling his hearers something of the industries of Australia. He then related his impressions of the Grand Canyon and other sights he had visited in America, and spoke appreciatively of the hospitality he had met with, though he found that Americans knew little about the Commonwealth. Mr. Syme sent messages to several friends and to his family in Australia and concluded with greetings to all. The American announcer also_spoke briefly, some reference being made to Lindbergh, the famous aviator.? It was stated by the announcer at 2FC Sydney that the speech had been heard there very clearly, though in_ ihe re-trans-mission to New Zealand some of the words were slurred. Further transmissions between New York and Australia and rebroadeasting by 2FC will be made on Wednesday and Saturday next between 8.30 and 9.30 (New Zealand time). Between 9.30 and 11.30 on Thursday June 23, station 2FC will rebroadcastay special Australian programme which will be transmitted on 52 metres by WLW. the Grosslev station, Cincinnatti, Ohio.
