EUROPEAN TARIFFS
THE BRITISH ATTITUDE
ATTENTION ATTRACTED
(Floe. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association./ LONDON, Juno IS. The question of the British and German attitude towards tariffs in
view of the Economic Conference resolutions continues to attract attention. Tlie Morning Post’s Berlin correspondent says there is an overwhelming mass of political and economic opinion in Germany, of which Dr. 81 resemann is one of the most conspicuous leaders, in favor of a general reduction in world tariffs, v herein Germany will almost certainly participate. Her existing tariffs are not high. Her customs last year amounted to 7.7 per cent, of the total value of imports. A complete revision of tariffs is being slowly worked out, but it may be doubted whether this will stop at a one-sided reduction on the part of Germany, who is watching with disquiet the opposite tendency elsewhere, notably in France.
