(Press Association Messages). Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., leader of the Liberal Party, had a good meeting in Feifding last'night despite the bad weather, lie spoke on the lines of his previous speeches, and advocated the establishment of an agricultural bank. The following'prisoners were sentenced by the Chief Justice in the Wellington Supreme Court to-day: 'James Julian East, seven charges of theft at Waipukurnu, reformative detention not exceeding three years; I'.cvf 'league ami William Kdward Tinkler, breaking and entering and theft at Wellington, attempted breaking and entering with intent to, commit a crime, two years liafd labor; Thomas Francis McLaughlin and Edward John -Duggan, theft at Wellington, 12 months' hard labor; Basil "Trevor Wood, breaking ami tillering and theft, two charges, Palmerslon North, Rorstal treatment for three years. At the inquest, at Wellington to-day regarding the death of Arthur Albert Smith, 43, a City Council electric lines man who fell from a. pole 1 at Island Bay on Thursday, the evidence was unable lb show whether or not deceased had received a shock. The. Ooroner, therefore, returned an open verdict, in view of possible future action. . He remarked that the evidence, of Bnllmor<\ who was working with deceased, somewhat strengthened that ol Dr. Lynch, who had stated that a shock might be received without showing any marks.
