Liquor in Dry Area
Liquor was finding its way into flic King Country dry area, a menace to the. Maori people, and causing young men who under proper control t of the traffic, would not touch liquor to become drunkards. These opinions were expressed by members of the Waitomo Licensing Committee at New Plymouth, when a ( resolution was passed urging the Government to take a referendum on the license question in the district, and if the vote were favorable to grant licenses immediately. It, was stated that the late Mr. W. F. Massey had promised to give Parliament an opportunity to discuss the question. The whole position had become fi farce, as the law was not being obeyed, said one member.—P.A.
