DIRECT SHIPMENTS
SOUTH ISLAND CLAIMS (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Direct shipments between West of England ports and the South Island of New Zealand occupied the attention of tlio Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last night. The meeting approved l of the representations made to overseas shipowners’ allotment committoe that equality of treatment be given to each of the main ports of the Dominion in the matter of first , arrivals and final calls of English steamers. 1
