MOTOR MISHAP.
(To ill© Editor of the Herald.) Sir,—John Toinbleson and Albert Smith met at the blacksmith’s corner with a biff and a bank ancl a horrible smack, and down in the gutter, alas, alack, each car reposed with a crumpled bonnet and a crowd 1 came from nowhere and commented on it. I see that you account for this accident by saying that both drivers became confused. This was not the case at all. Both of us knew where we were going, but the accident, of course, implies an error of judgment on the part of at least one of us. I was making for Gisborne from Morere; Mr. Smith was making for Ngatapa frohi Bell’s orchard. At the water trough [ held out my hand to the right and took the curve to the right on the crown of the banking, my proper place. Mr. Smith took a turn to his left as though ho was also going to Gisborne, then came straight across the triangle and his right mudguard hit my lelt, both cars going into the ditch by the smithy. When his car struck mine 1# was off liis road altogether; lie was on the Gisborne-Wairoa road. Mv two-year-old grandson was thrown out of bis mother’s arms, and his head struck the rubber of Mr. Smith’s back tyre. No one else was damaged, and be was all right in half an hour. When we got out our respective ears, Mr. Smith said: “I saw' your signal; why didn’t you slacken up and let me get on my proper side.” He evidently thought that although I was off his road altogether, it was still his business to get on my right-band side.—l am. etc. JOHN TOMBLESOX.
