The towns of Canterbury in New South Wales and Victoria sent greetings to the gathering at the annual dinner of the Royal Colonial Institute, 6-. which the Duke of Connaught preb'<Sir' Hugh Denison sent a cable, congratulating the, institute on its contributing to the Empire’s re birth on more enduring lines as a result oi the new status of the Dominions in accord with the Imperial Conference. The Secretary for the Dominions, Mr. Amery, toasting “The United Empire,” described it as one of the most progressive, youngest and most hopeful political organisations in the world. It was yearly changing its character and constituents, but was a'wavs more united. Sir Joseph Cook, responding, declared that the basis of the Empire s health was not internationalism, but Empire brotherhood and sane, moderate patriotism. (Cheers).
