NEW BRUNSWICK TO BECOME WET

LEGISLATURE VOTES FOR INTRODUCTION OF BILL. FREDERICTON (Nc w Brunswick), April 6.-Isy a. vote of 27 to 20, all the nine ultra-prohibitionists in the Government s ranks, as well as the solid Opposition voting nay, the Provincial Legislature passed shortly before midnight tonight the motion for introduction of the Bill which is to put New Brunswick in tlie list of Canadian provinces which have abandoned prohibition for Government control legislation. Premier J. B. M. Baxter to-night outlined to the Legislature a measure which lie has introduced that will have the effort of permitting the sale of liquor under the commission system, purchases to ho made at Government stores, witli certain restrictions with regard t 0 sales, and heavy penalties against bootlegging and infraction of the law. The plan follows closely the enactment recently passed in Ontario, except that no mention is made of permits. There is every probability that the Act. will become law, inasmuch as Brenner Baxter commands a large majority in the Legislature. This will leave only two dry provinces iti Canada—Nova Scotia and ’Prince Edward Island—and Premier J. D. Stewart, of Prince Edward Island, has already signified his intention of fighting an election campaign this year on a. “Government liquor control platform.”
